Torsemide has diuretic, Na+, and C1-reactive effects but does not significantly alter glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, and acid-base balance. Acts on the thick section of the ascending medullary canal, interfering with the Na+, K+, 2C1-isotropic transport system of the cell membrane of the lumen, inhibiting the reabsorption of cl- and Na+, increasing the concentration of NaCl in the luminal fluid, and increasing the osmotic pressure. As the NaCl of the interstitial fluid decreases, the osmotic pressure gradient decreases, which interferes with the urine concentration process and increases urinary Na+, Cl- and water excretion. Human studies have also confirmed that the product acts on this site, and the effect on other parts of the kidney unit is not yet clear. The anti-hypertensive mechanism of this product is not fully understood as other diuretics, probably because it reduces the total peripheral resistance.
