DMBA molecule contains two primary hydroxyl groups and a carboxylic group, thus it has both characteristics of alcohol and acid compounds. Oleophilic carbon skeleton and hydrophilic functional structure make it has its unique dissolving characteristics, DMBA becomes a kind of excellent performance of extenders and hydrophilc agent, can be used for synthesis of water-based polymer system. DMBA is seen as a new generation of green environmental chain extender agent and emulsifier used in waterborne polyurethane, for producing water-based polyurethane adhesives without using organic solvent, no organic residue. DMBA does not exist these problems which DMPA exists: high melting point, dissolve slowly, long reaction time, high energy consumption, product performance is poor, need to add organic solvents, big solvent residue, etc. DMBA can also be used for waterborne epoxy resin, polyester adhesive manufacturing.
